ADEN: Houthi militias and those of ousted Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh are hijacking education in Yemen, officials have said.
School curriculums are being changed “in accordance with instructions of foreign agendas, to dictate sectarianism,” it has been reported.
Maj. Gen. Hussein Arab, Yemen’s deputy premier and interior minister, said the militias are pumping sectarian thought into the curriculum, according to a Saudi Press Agency (SPA) report.
Yemen’s minister of education reportedly said that the Houthi militias have destroyed 1,700 schools during the war they launched about two years ago. The Ministry of Education is making great efforts to develop a program to sustain the comprehensive rehabilitation of students and pupils.
The Houthi group had ordered the printing of more than 11,000 small pamphlets bearing the thoughts of Hussein Al-Houthi and the group’s slogans for distribution, at schools controlled either by the militias or forces loyal to deposed Saleh, Yemeni independent sources reported.
