The Hyderabad police has been probing the alleged involvement of an IAS officer’s son in the murder of his father’s driver.
Following a complaint by the victim’s wife, the police detained Venkat Sukrat, son of IAS officer G. Venkateswara Rao, at Jubilee Hills Police Station on Monday for questioning.
“We already have the CCTV footage of the apartment, we have to verify certain evidence. He has been detained in the morning and during interrogation, he has accepted the crime,” A Venkateswara Rao, DCP of West Zone told The News Minute.
The deceased person has been identified as Bhukya Nagaraju (40), who has been working as a driver for Venkateswara Rao’s wife, for nearly six years.
The murder was committed on March 17 in the penthouse of Sai Kalyan Residency Apartments at Yousufguda, however, the incident came to light on Saturday.
Nagaraju and another youth, suspected to be Sukrat, had gone to the penthouse on the evening of March 17. However, only one of the youth came out and left the apartment.
“On Saturday, Venkat came back to dispose the body. He kept the body in a bag and reached the lift. But he was stopped by a neighbour. Because of the bad smell, the man suspected and questioned him about the bag. Out of fear, he escaped, while the man informed the police,” said the DCP.
Initially, a case of suspicious death was registered, but now police are waiting for the post-mortem report.
