Hyderabad: 20-year-old son of a senior IAS officer was detained by Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills police on Sunday in connection with the murder of a car driver.

Venkata Sukrut, son of IAS officer serving in Telangana agriculture department G Venkateswara Rao, is being interrogated. West zone deputy commissioner of police A Venkateswara Rao said the IAS officer is also being questioned.

The arrest was made after police retrieved a CCTV footage where Sukrut and another man, believed to be driver Bhukya Nagaraju, recorded going to the terrace of their apartment Sai Kalyani Residency on Friday night. However, only Sukruth was recorded returning.

The following night, an unknown person, carrying a heavy gunny bag was spotted by the residents of the apartment located in at Yousufguda area. When the residents questioned the man, he ran away, leaving behind the bag. The next day, foul smell emanated from the bag and the residents alerted local police.

The Jubilee Hills police, on investigation, found the dead body of Nagaraju in the gunny bag.

The deceased driver’s wife Jamuna pinned her suspicion on Sukruth.

However, DCP Rao said it that it was too early to arrive at a conclusion at the stage. “Our interrogation and investigation are going on,” he said.»
