Hyderabad is fast emerging as GCCs Hub in the country, says Jayesh Ranjan

Hyderabad, Dec.11 (NSS)Confederation of Indian Industry  (CII) Telangana organized its annual flagship event – CII Telangana IT Conclave 2024 with the theme ‘Unleashing the Potential for GCCs’ on  Wednesday in Hyderabad.

While addressing the Conclave, Dr Jayesh Ranjan, IAS., Special Chief Secretary, Industries & Commerce, ITE&C and Sports Department, Government of Telangana said that in India we have more than 2000 GCCs of which almost 10% of them, around 200 are located in Hyderabad. Talent plays a major role in attracting GCCs and in last three years Hyderabad attracted the largest number of GCCs in the country. There is a need to promote tier-2 and tier-3 cities as industrial hubs. During the Covid, talent force in Hyderabad proved that we are highly disciplined and achieve good results therefore Global GCCs have appreciated it. There is a need to work on attrition issue and BFSI Consortium is a welcome move to improve the skill set of the students and ensure steady supply of trained manpower. In Hyderabad, many GCCs are theme based as we have BFSI, Life Sciences which more visible but we also have GCCs in Automotive, FMCG, Logistics and Animation & Gaming sectors also. There is a need to work together to achieve competitive advantage.

Ramesh Kaza, Sr. MD, Country Head IT India, Strategy & Transformation – International CIO, State Street Bank & Trust said that Hyderabad has a unique advantage that we all come together to promote the city as a hub. We believe that best way to grow is grow together and entire GCC ecosystem is working together as one team. Around 800 GCCs are planning to set up their operations in India and Hyderabad need to gear up to attract maximum number of these GCCS. Through BFSI Consortium few of the major companies have come together are working on providing curriculum, content and coaching to train 10,000 students every year. The program is expected to commence operations from January 2025 in 20 engineering colleges. BFSI Consortium may become a path breaking intervention in the long run in the Skill Development area.

Sai Prasad, Chairman, CII Telangana, emphasized, that there is a need to attract GCCs to the tier 2 towns like Warangal, Adilabad, Karimnagar as there is a need to move beyond Hyderabad for the holistic development of the state. GCCs could be from all sectors and there is a proven track record that GCCs could be established in tier-2 cities also. The state has registered continued growth and there is a need to continue that trajectory. Single window system of Telangana has proved to be highly successful in the entire country.

JA Chowdhary, Chairman, International Startup Foundation said that there is a need to create more jobs through start-ups and GCCs. As most of the tasks are getting automated and technology is playing a key role in job creation. GCCs are also started as start-ups. Hyderabad is providing good infrastructure for AI based start-ups. Many countries are looking at India as a destination for setting up the industry operations. Start-ups do not have any borders and many opportunities are available in Ai and Global Ai Summit is being scheduled in Dallas in May 2025.

Sanjeev Deshpande, Convenor, CII Telangana IT, DT & Startups Panel, & Advisor, NTT Data Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd. mentioned that Good talent pool, good infrastructure and low cost of living are making Hyderabad as one of the most attractive destinations in the country.   We have very good Start up ecosystem and there is a need to provide supportive ecosystem for GCCs.
