Hyderabad, Dec.24 (RAHNUMA): HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath has directed officials to ensure that the lakes are ready in time for the kite festival.
Ranganath said it is customary for the state government to organise the kite festival from January 13 to 15th during Sankranthi festival. This time, the state government has decided to hold the kite festival near the lakes developed by HYDRA as well.
On Wednesday, the HYDRA Commissioner inspected the development works on the ground. He visited the Nalla Cheruvu lakes in Tamidikunta and Kukatpally and gave several instructions. AV Ranganath directed that arrangements be made immediately to ensure that only treated water from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) flows into the lakes, preventing direct entry of sewage.
He emphasised the need to maintain a clean environment in the areas where the STPs are located. AV Ranganath suggested utilising the government land adjacent to the lakes for this purpose. He also instructed that parks be developed and greenery increased. The HYDRA Commissioner stated that every lake should be developed into a tourist spot.
He instructed officials on the need for GHMC to work in coordination with the Tourism department and other government departments to ensure that the kite festival takes place in a pleasant atmosphere. AV Ranganath emphasised the importance of prioritising safety near the lakes and directed that drinking water facilities and toilets be provided.
The Commissioner also inspected the parking facilities being arranged to ensure that motorists visiting the lakes do not face any difficulties and can easily arrive and depart.
He stated that along with Bathukammakunta, Tammidikunta in Madhapur, Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally, and the Bum-Rukn-ud-Daula lake in the Old City are becoming the venues for Sankranthi celebrations.
