
Hyderabad, Sept.27 (NSS): The Institute of Forest Biodiversity (IFB), Hyderabad is one of the institutes under Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE), an autonomous council under Union Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.
The institute located at Dulapally, Hyderabad, is mandated to carry out research on conservation and sustainable utilization of forest biodiversity, with an emphasis on the Eastern Ghats, Mangroves and Coastal Ecology. ICFRE-IFB, Hyderabad conducted a Research Advisory Group (RAG) Meeting on October 27, 2024 in hybrid mode to scrutinize the newly-proposed forestry research projects and to monitor the progress of ongoing projects. The RAG chaired by E. Venkat Reddy, IFS, Director, ICFRE-IFB consisted of 20 external experts from State Forest Departments of Telangana and Odisha, Telangana State Forest Development Corporation, representatives from FCRI, paper industries, eminent foresters and scientist representatives from ICAR, CSIR, NGOs and Subject Matter Experts.
In the meeting, six new project proposals were evaluated under three thrust areas for possible funding from ICFRE Plan fund. Proposed projects include Identification and characterization of sex pheromones for the management of a wood boring insect pest of red sanders, Studying the reproductive biology of red sanders, Documentation of climbers of the family Apocynaceae in forests of Odisha, Assessment and phytochemical characterization of Indian Dhoop trees in Telangana, Documentation of scarabid beetle diversityin Narsapur Reserve forests and Genetic mapping of wavy grain trait in red sanders.
