IJU 11th Plenary to be held in Vijayawada

Hyderabad/Chandigarh, March 18 (RAHNUMA): The 11th Plenary of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU) will be held on March 28-29 in Vijayawada (Amaravathi), the capital of Andhra Pradesh.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, IJU President K. Sreenivas Reddy, Secretary General Balwinder Singh Jammu, and Secretary D. Somasundar announced that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the session as chief guest. Several Union ministers and Andhra Pradesh ministers will also attend as guests and deliver messages. hosting the IJU plenary after a 34-year gap—the second IJU plenary was held in Vijayawada in 1992. The elected delegates, presidents and general secretaries of affiliated unions from 25 states, will attend.

The plenary will discuss the professional issues and current media situation in India, recent threats to media freedom, and organizational matters. The plenary will adopt about 10 resolutions and outline an action plan to advance working journalists demands including professional and welfare measures. A new

National Executive Committee will be elected in the plenary for the next two years.

The Reception Committee which was formed with Kesineni Shivanadh (Chinni), MP, as Chief Patron, Alapati Suresh Kumar, Chairman C Raghava Chary AP Media Academy as Chairman and I V Subbarao as General Secretary is overseeing the arrangements for the plenary.
