Indira Gandhi’s ‘Garibi Hatao’ call still etched in hearts of poor: Komatireddy

Hyderabad, Nov.19 (RAHNUMA): On the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Minister for Roads & Buildings and Cinematography, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy paid rich tributes at her statue on PV Marg in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister recalled Indira Gandhi’s unparalleled service to the nation, her courage, and her visionary leadership. He noted that she played a pivotal role in elevating India’s stature on the global stage. Her historic decisions—such as the nationalisation of banks and the 20-Point Programme for poverty alleviation—remain landmark reforms in India’s development narrative.

Venkat Reddy said that Indira Gandhi’s iconic slogan “Garibi Hatao” continues to resonate with people even today, and the Congress party remains committed to carrying forward her ideals.

Reflecting her spirit, the Telangana government is constructing 20 lakh Indiramma houses across the State, providing ₹5 lakh for each unit and ensuring that every home is registered in the name of a woman, thereby empowering poor families with dignity and security, he said.

The Minister said Indira Gandhi’s dedication to national progress and her commitment to the welfare of the underprivileged will forever inspire future generations and today’s leadership.
