Jagan slams govt for mishandling Achyutapuram incident

Anakapalle, Aug.23 (NSS)Former CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday said the manner in which Chandrababu government acted in the Achyutapuram incident was painful. On Friday morning, he visited the victims at a private hospital in Anakapalli and later spoke to the media.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the Achyutapuram incident was painful and added that the government’s attitude in this case was not right. “The tragic incident did not happen on the night, but in broad daylight. However, the government remained completely negligent. The Labour Minister said he did not have the details of the accident. I don’t know how many people have died. The government did not want to react to the incident,” he alleged.

Jagan Reddy said it was very sad when the Collector and Commissioner went to the incident spot, Ambulances did not even reach the spot and added that the victims were brought in to hospitals company buses. “A similar incident took place in Mohayam. That’s during Covid. We had given compensation within 24 hours of LG Polymers incident. The administration and the government machinery responded immediately after the accident. We became the first government to pay a compensation of Rs 1 crore in the country. The collector rushed to the spot shortly after the accident took place in the wee hours of the morning. I myself reached the accident site at 11 a.m. We have sent ₹.30 crore as compensation within hours. No government in the past has responded like our government. But the way this government has responded now is sad. An in-depth investigation should be conducted into how the accident took place in this factory,” he demanded

Reddy said compensation should be given with sympathy and immediately. He said adequate precautions should be taken to avoid recurrence of such accidents. “If the victims are not compensated, I will come and do a dharna myself. I will stand by the victims,” he warned. Expressing surprise at CM Chandrababu’s press meet, he alleged that the CM tried to divert the issue. He made it clear that the government has to act responsibly and added that the accident would not have happened had the industries been monitored.
