Hyderabad, July 16 (NSS): has urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy that apart from ex gratia to the families of the deceased Gulf workers, the families of those employed in the Gulf countries should be given special priority in the government’s schemes.
The Congress MLC on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Chief Minister, asking that the welfare schemes should be extended to the family members of Gulf workers.
In a letter, Jeevan Reddy stated that about 15 lakh families from Telangana are employed in the Gulf countries and the State government is getting a revenue of about Rs.18,000 crores from the Gulf workers.
He stated that Telangana workers living in the Gulf countries are facing many problems due to various reasons, resulting in that they are mentally depressed, committing suicides, becoming prone to illnesses and accidents.
He pointed out that under these circumstances, it must be considered the government’s responsibility to support such families.
The workers employed in Gulf countries should be given financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh if they die abroad, and the workers returning from abroad should be given priority in self-employment schemes to settle in the country, Jeevan Reddy asked.
“The State government should consider it as a responsibility to give priority to their children in education opportunities in Gurukul ashram schools and in other schemes, including housing. The government should also set up a Labour Welfare Board for Gulf workers on the lines of Kerala State and extend all facilities to them,” he added.
