Hyderabad, June 23 (INN): The Telangana Junior Doctors Association (T-JUDA) has called for an indefinite strike starting June 24. The association has already submitted an official strike notice to the Director of Medical Education (DME).
The primary reason behind this step is the delay in releasing their stipends. The doctors feel their demands have not been fully addressed despite previous discussions and proposals.
One significant issue is the timely disbursement of stipends for house surgeons, postgraduates, and senior residents. The junior doctors are pushing for creating a “green channel” to ensure that stipends are disbursed by the 10th of each month. They are also advocating for a Government Order (GO) and a circular from the finance department to alleviate the financial strain on junior doctors.
Another crucial demand concerns the honorarium for Super Specialty Senior Residents. The doctors are calling for their appointment to contract assistant professor positions with a salary of Rs 1.25 lakh starting January 1, 2024.
The junior doctors are also advocating for a fair admission process, seeking a 15% reservation in the NEET UG prospectus for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh students and emphasizing that AP students should not occupy the increased seats in Telangana medical colleges after June 2, 2014.
The safety of doctors at government hospitals is also a point of concern. The T-JUDA is demanding stricter law enforcement and reinforcement of security outposts to tackle ongoing incidents of violence.
Additionally, accommodation shortages for postgraduates, delayed construction of hostels, infrastructure deficiencies in government medical colleges, and road conditions at Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, are among the other pressing issues that the junior doctors want addressed.
Despite their previous restraint during the Model Code of Conduct, the T-JUDA’s lack of significant progress from the authorities has led them to resume their strike on June 24. (INN)
