Karimnagar, Jan.8 (RAHNUMA): Union Minister Bandi Sanjay on Thursday launched a blistering attack on former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao accusing him of committing grave injustice to Telangana in the matter of Krishna river water sharing.
Speaking to media persons at Shubham Gardens in Rekurthi, Karimnagar, Bandi Sanjay questioned as to why the Congress leaders failed to oppose KCR’s decisions at the time and asserted that it was the BJP that staged protests and forced KCR to relent. He alleged that both the Congress and BRS parties played political games over the water issue, harming the Telangana’s interests.
The Union minister accused the Congress of doing injustice to Telangana during the state bifurcation, stating that the “sins of Congress and BRS have become curses for the people of Telangana”. He alleged that the two parties colluded to avoid discussion on Congress’ six guarantees and to stall investigations into BRS corruption.
Further, he remarked that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy lied in the Assembly, particularly on the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation (PRLI) Project, and asked whether the Congress had ever protested when BRS stalled the project earlier. He said the Centre conducted multiple meetings to ensure Telangana did not face injustice in water sharing.
Highlighting the figures, Sanjay said undivided Andhra Pradesh had 811 TMC of Krishna water, but Congress never allowed Telangana to use more than 200 TMC. He added that despite having 1,486 TMC share in the Godavari river, Telangana had utilized less than 500 TMC.
Referring to Section 89 of the AP Reorganisation Act, he said projects under construction or planning should not face objections, but questioned why PRLI was excluded from the Act and why the Congress leaders failed to object then. He also blamed the BRS for not exposing this lapse.
Sanjay alleged that under the water-sharing agreement, Telangana should receive 571 TMC of Krishna water while Andhra Pradesh should get 299 TMC, but the allocations were reversed. He claimed KCR, Chandrababu Naidu and Harish Rao had signed the agreement in the presence of then Union Minister Uma Bharti.
He sharply criticised KCR for remaining silent after the Pothireddypadu capacity was increased from 4.3 TMC to 13.7 TMC, and accused him of using the *Kaleshwaram project to divert public attention and loot public money. Calling KCR ‘incompetent’, Sanjay alleged the project cost was inflated from Rs.30,000 crore to over Rs.1 lakh crore, resulting in massive corruption.
