Hyderabad, Sept.17 (NSS): Union Minister Kishan Reddy today said the Telangana State was liberated due to the great struggle of thousands of people with the Nizam ruler.
Addressing a gathering at Secunderabad parade grounds after hoisting national flag as part of the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations on September 17, he took part in the celebrations along with Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion, he extended greetings to the people of the State. He said Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played an important role in achieving the freedom to the State. He said September 17 was as similar to the State as the August 15 Independence Day celebrations to the country. He alleged that successive State governments had forgotten the great fighters of the State and called upon the people to build the Telangana State with a strong foundation.
Stating that Telangana has a rich history, he claimed that the State governments were not recognising the history of the State. Reddy recalled that although the people of the country achieved freedom in 1947, he said the people of the State did not get it like the people of the country. He said the Hyderabad princely State was merged with the State only after the police action launched by Patel. He said the history of the State was written with several tragic stories. He alleged that the then BRS party State government had celebrated the September 17 as National Integration Day although several political parties celebrated it as either the liberation day or merger’s day.
