Kishan welcomes simultaneous elections in country

Hyderabad, Sept.19 (NSS): Union Minister and State BJP president G. Kishan Reddy today reacted on the issue of the simultaneous elections in the country. He said the Central government was working towards making the country a developed one by 2047 and added that the main obstacle in this direction was to put a full stop to the ongoing elections to the State assemblies and parliament.

He said the decision to hold simultaneous elections for five years across the country was a welcome development. “Because of elections at different times, the election code will be  in force. This will lead to the inability to take policy decisions making it a hindrance to the implementation of the

decisions of the governments. Besides, providing minimum services is also being affected because of the election rallies and public meetings. People are also facing severe difficulties due to noise pollution and traffic jams,” he added.

Reddy said there would be a lot of financial burden on the exchequer due to the conduct of the elections separately and added that the expenditure incurred on holding separate elections to parliament and State assemblies was more than Rs 4,500 crore. “On the other hand, the influence of regional parties is evident in most parts of the country. It is a fact that during the parliamentary elections, only national issues are being discussed. Regional issues will also be discussed at an equal level. The influence of regional parties will also continue,” he said, adding because of holding separate elections, there was an increase in the apathy of the voters towards the electoral process and the decline in the voter percentage was clearly visible while I hope that the simultaneous elections will show a solution to this.

He said the  Committee headed by former President of India Ram Nath Kovind had addressed some key points. “The committee noted that inflation in the country will come down by 1.1%. Technical aspects have also been mentioned for this.

The committee noted that economic activities are declining and the GDP is being impacted. Because of the elections, There will be a 1.5 per cent increase in GDP. This is roughly Rs 4.5 lakh crore in FY24. This amount.. This will be half of the central government’s expenditure on healthcare and one-third of the expenditure on education,” he said.
