KTR claims 90% of Adilabad irrigation projects completed under BRS tenure

Hyderabad, Jan.16 (RAHNUMA): Before Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy officially opens the Chanaka-Korata and Sadarmat barrages in the former Adilabad district on Friday, BRS working president KT Rama Rao emphasised that these projects were largely finished during the previous BRS administration and are only being inaugurated now.

He pointed out that over 90 percent of both irrigation structures were completed before the BRS left office in December 2023.

In a post on X on Friday, KT Rama Rao noted that the Chanaka-Korata Barrage, which has a storage capacity of 0.98 TMC, saw 95 percent of its work completed during K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership.

He also mentioned that a trial run took place in September 2023. The project began in 2016 after an inter-State agreement with Maharashtra, aimed at supplying irrigation to about 51,000 acres across 89 villages in the Adilabad and Boath constituencies through its lift irrigation system.

Additionally, KT Rama Rao explained that the Sadarmat barrage, which can store 1.58 TMCft, had approximately 90 percent of its construction finished under the BRS administration. This project is expected to stabilise irrigation for 18,000 acres in the Nirmal and Jagtial districts. “Thanks to the irrigation efforts during KCR’s decade of rule, previously dry lands in these areas have become fertile,” he said.
