Hyderabad, Aug.7 (NSS): GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi today said it was the responsibility of everyone to protect the environment. She called upon everyone to become committed to provide clean air to the future generations.
Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi participated in a programme organized at Lotus Pond in Jubilee Hills Circle on Wednesday as part of the cleanliness and greenery programme and planted saplings. She said everyone should plant saplings and protect the environment. The trees provide oxygen and it is the duty of all to grow and protect them. Today, saplings are being planted on a large scale at 25 ponds in the city,” she said. She also said planting of saplings would go a long way in ensuring that ponds were not encroached upon.
Earlier, Mayor Vijayalakshmi along with students and residents of the colony planted saplings at Lotus Pond Park. Gambusia fish were released in the pond. Saplings were distributed to residents and students of Jubilee Hills colony to plant in their homes.
On the other hand, GHMC Additional Commissioner Lakes Shivakumar Naidu along with EE Shankar Rao planted saplings at SAIL Annex Hotel as part of the conservation of ponds on the 3rd day as part of the cleanliness and greenery programme. A E Aruna and other officials were present on the occasion.
