Loan waiver process for farmers still underway: Tummala

Hyderabad, Oct.7 (NSS): Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao has disclosed that the loan waiver process for farmers is still underway and that a detailed review meeting on the loans exceeding Rs.2 lakhs will take place after the Dasara festival.

Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao attended the face-to-face interaction programme with Congress party workers and the general public at Gandhi Bhavan here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasised that the Sate government had waived Rs.25,000 crores in loans for farmers within just 10 months.

He blamed the previous BRS government for pushing the Sate into a financial crisis where it couldn’t even pay salaries to employees.

“Despite the challenging circumstances, the  Congress government is able to provide significant relief to farmers and even continued the Rythu Bhima scheme, which the previous administration failed to deliver,” Tummala pointed out.

The Minister also expressed anger at the Union government’s disregard for the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations regarding MSP (Minimum Support Price) increases.

“Farmers have no need to worry, but those who lost power and want to return to it are the ones who are anxious,” he remarked.

The Minister also questioned whether the BRS and BJP had forgotten their anti-farmer policies, accusing BRS leaders of deceiving the public with hollow promises.

During the face-to-face programme, people presented 95 petitions to the Minister, addressing a wide range of issues such as land disputes, jobs, pensions, and housing under the Indiramma scheme.

The Minister assured the public that he was addressing some issues immediately, in consultation with district collectors. He noted that people flock to Gandhi Bhavan because they believe their problems will be solved there.
