Hyderabad, Jan.10 (RAHNUMA): As part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will conduct a Mega E-Waste Sanitation Drive across the city on January 12 and 13, covering all 300 wards, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan announced.
The drive aims to create public awareness on the importance of proper management of electronic waste, while ensuring systematic collection and scientific processing of e-waste from residential, commercial and public places.
A wide range of electronic waste items will be collected during the drive, including refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, computers, mobile phones, televisions, batteries, UPS systems, power banks, and other electronic appliances.
From January 9 onwards, sanitation staff, along with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), are undertaking awareness campaigns to sensitise citizens about responsible e-waste disposal.
Temporary e-waste collection centres have been identified in every ward for the convenience of the public.
The GHMC Commissioner has issued instructions to zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners and sanitation officials to ensure the successful conduct of the drive.
As per the commissioner’s directions, extensive publicity is being carried out across the city to make the mega e-waste sanitation drive a success. In all zones and circles, field-level awareness campaigns using public address systems are being conducted to educate citizens about the drive and its significance.
