Hyderabad, Aug.5 (NSS): The BRS party has stepped up efforts to take legal action in the matter of disqualification of the rebel party MLAs, who have switched sides and joined the ruling Congress party.
A group of senior leaders, led by the party working president KT Rama Rao, held discussions with several prominent jurists in Delhi in this regard. The party delegation also met with constitutional experts on Monday.
Constitutional expert Chetpat Aryama Sundaram told the party delegation that the Supreme Court had already delivered several judgments in the matter of defections of Manipur MLAs. He said as in the past, the assembly Speaker cannot hold up the issue of the disqualification of the MLAs for a long period of time. The BRS leaders handed over the petition filed in the High Court regarding the disqualification of the three MLAs and the complaint lodged with the assembly Speaker against the MLAs, who had switched sides and documents related to the same to the legal experts.
The Legal experts said even the High Court was unlikely to postpone it for long as the Supreme Court guidelines are now clear in this regard, KTR said if the High Court’s decision was not announced at the earliest, there is a possibility of going to the Supreme Court by them. KTR also said the legal battle would continue as per the observations made in the Supreme Court judgments and the suggestions of the legal experts and experts on the Constitution.
KTR expressed confidence that the issue of the disqualification of the MLAs who have switched parties would be cleared within a month by the High Court or the Supreme Court. He said By-elections in Telangana State were inevitable. The MLAs who have switched the parties will be taught a lesson in the public domain, he noted. He alleged that the Congress party was encouraging defections to hurt the spirit of the Constitution in Telangana State by making useless comments on the party defections at the national level.
Senior party leaders, including former ministers Harish Rao, Jagadish Reddy, Gangula Kamalakar, Rajya Sabha members Vaddhiraju Ravichandra, former MP and current MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy participated in the meeting with constitutional experts and jurists.
