Musi Rejuvenation estimates to be finalised by March 31; works to begin post-DPR: Revanth

Hyderabad, Jan.2 (RAHNUMA): Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that estimations for the prestigious Musi Rejuvenation project will be finalised by March 31 this year and the works will be started by inviting tenders immediately.

Speaking in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said the ADB bank has already agreed to provide a loan of 4,000 crore for the Musi project and the central government has also given its approval for the development of Gandhi Sarovar under the Musi project.

Revanth Reddy noted that Bapu Ghat was constructed at the confluence of the Musi and Eesa rivers, where Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed. Human civilisation developed in river basins. From the Kakatiyas to the Nizam Nawabs, projects were built to meet the needs of irrigation, drinking water, and industrial development. Once the DPR (Detailed Project Report) is ready, we will give a Powerpoint presentation to all the MLAs and seek their suggestions , the Chief Minister announced.

Strict action was already taken on the pollution of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs through drainage from the farmhouses of the influential families. When the city was flooded in 1908, the Nizam government constructed the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar projects as a permanent solution to the flood problem. Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar are still quenching the thirst of the people of Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy said.

As part of the development of the Musi project, the Chief Minister said that they had visited countries like London (Thames River), New York, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore and all world-class cities had protected their river basins.

In Gujarat, 60,000 families were relocated during the Sabarmati river cleanup. Ganges river was also cleaned up and built a riverfront in UP. BJP leaders promoted these structures as a sign of development, the Chief Minister said.

Revanth Reddy highlighted that Nalgonda people were already suffering due to increasing pollution in Musi. Industrial pollution and animal waste caused huge pollution. Reports say that women living alongside Musi were facing health problems. After studying the development of global cities, the government is preparing plans to ensure that clean water flows in the Musi River, he said.

Further, the Chief Minister said the government has appointed consultancies to prepare plans for the Musi project. Development is already underway in a V-shape at Gandhi Sarovar near Bapu Ghat. A permanent solution to Musi pollution will also be done by diverting Godavari waters. We are planning to utilise 15 TMC of the 20 TMC for drinking water needs and 5 TMC to maintain a continuous flow of clean water in the Musi River. Gandhi Sarovar at Bapu Ghat at the confluence of three rivers, he said.

Revanth Reddy said that development of the ancient Shiva temple located in the Musi river basin near Manchirevula, building a Gurudwara, a mosque, and a church in the Musi river basin to promote religious harmony are part of the Musi project. Union Minister Rajnath Singh has also agreed to give defense land for the construction of Gandhi Sarovar. After the DPR (Detailed Project Report) is ready, we will take suggestions and advice from everyone,” he said.

The Chief Minister strongly objected to calling him a real estate broker. Real estate is also an industry. Similar criticisms were made when the Hitech City was developed.

In the next 20 years, urbanisation will increase to 75 percent. The poison in the hearts of some people is far more dangerous than the pollution in the Musi River. Why are they spewing venom when I am explaining the details? They want to prevent the truth from reaching the people and stop any discussion. Why does it hurt them when I explain the details? Even their BRS MLAs are demanding that the Musi River be cleaned up, Revanth Reddy said.

The Chief Minister elaborated the government plan to construct a 55 km elevated corridor from Gandipet to Gourella.

Referring to the old city development, Revanth Reddy said the government will transform it into one of the greatest cities in the world. He suggested that the MLAs in the Greater Hyderabad area to come out with proposals to develop their constituencies.

“We are ready to build good houses for the poor and provide them with better facilities. Our resolve is to transform Hyderabad into a world-class city,” the Chief Minister said.
