Hyderabad, Aug.10 (NSS): G. Niranjan, TPCC Sr. Vice-President & Chairman, Election Commission Coordination Committee has said the State government should undertake a special drive across the State to prevent the menace and attacks of stray dogs. Even though stray dogs are attacking people daily, children are getting injured and lives are being lost, the authorities are not taking any specific preventive measures, he lamented.
“It was heartbreaking to see a baby being eaten by dogs in the premises of MGM Hospital in Hanumakonda on Friday. Whether it is a boy or a girl, the tender body was eaten and dismembered beyond recognition. How did the dogs get into the hospital premises? What are the officers, staff and security personnel doing? We appeal to the Health Minister Damodara Rajanarsimha to take strict action against the concerned officials.
“Krishna Goud (Kannayya), a four-year-old boy who was attacked by dogs in Ibrahimpatnam, Raiprolu village on July 12, died on Friday at Nilofar Hospital. In Khanapur, Narsingi, a seven-year-old disabled boy named Bharat is being treated in the hospital after being attacked by dogs. On August 1, stray dogs attacked and injured 21 children in Balanagar under GHMC. A 75-year-old woman died after stray dogs attacked her and ate her stomach in Mustababad mandal in Rajanna Siricilla District. Although the High Court gave orders on August 2 in this regard, the measures taken by the authorities are nil”, he said.
Niranjan said the local bodies, Gram Panchayats, Municipalities and Municipal Corporations should take up the responsibility of controlling stray dogs. The respective local bodies should pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those killed in the dog attack. Similarly, compensation ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh should be paid to the injured families, he demanded.
