Hyderabad, Jan.23 (RAHNUMA): A national seminar organised by the BC Reservations Achievement Coordination JAC on Friday renewed demands for statutory reservations for OBCs in legislatures and the creation of a separate Union Ministry for OBC Affairs.
Addressing the gathering, National BC Dal president and JAC Chairman Dundra Kumaraswamy said the movement would continue until Parliament enacts a law ensuring OBC representation in legislative bodies. He said OBCs remain politically underrepresented despite being a majority.
The seminar was attended by former Additional Collector Rajesham, senior physician Dr. Ramadevi, Telangana CPI State secretary Venkataswamy, National BC Dal GHMC president Rajesh Yadav, and OBC leaders, academics and activists from several States.
Speakers highlighted the absence of legislative reservations and accused the Union government of delaying long-standing demands. Mr. Kumaraswamy called for a Bill on OBC legislative reservations to be placed in the Ninth Schedule to prevent legal hurdles.
The seminar concluded with a resolution to intensify nationwide mobilisation and strengthen coordination among OBC organisations.
