
Hyderabad, Nov.16 (NSS): Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Dana Kishore has directed the officials to pay special attention to the formation of new Self Help Groups (SHGs). He said new SHG groups should be formed to identify eligible women who are not a member of self-help groups.
He held a review meeting with officials of GHMC and MEPMA at the conference hall of the MAUD office on Saturday on the bank linkage target of self-help groups by achieving the target, setting up of new groups, development of entrepreneurship activities, and so on. Speaking on the occasion, he suggested that priority should be given to the formation of new women’s organisations as well as strengthening the old ones. “Women should be encouraged to join self-help groups and women who are still not members should be identified. Meetings should be held with DCs and municipal commissioners and new SHGs should be set up,” he said, adding women’s participation was crucial in achieving social and economic development and the formation of self-help groups will help in the economic self-reliance of women and the development of women.
“Orientation should be conducted for TMCs, community organizers, RPs, GHMC PDs and MEPMA project officers. By the end of December, 2024, new SHGs should be set up and registration of new members should be completed. The new SHGs should be attached to area level federations and town federations. Self-help groups should be provided loan facility through bank linkage as per the targets set, he said.
To achieve the target, a monthly action plan should be prepared and loans of at least Rs 200 crore per month should be provided through GHMC bank linkage. He suggested that business orientation should be brought in the maturity SHG groups and women should be encouraged to focus on businesses. He said a workshop should be organised with bankers.
Local NGOs and civil society organisations should be identified for the development of entrepreneurship. Mapping of NGOs should be done at the level of DC and PD.
GHMC zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners, municipal commissioners, CSOs, NGOs, bankers, ACLBs and PDs have been asked to conduct a workshop,” he said. He also said programmes should be planned for the carnival to be held at Tank Bund on December 7, 8 and 9.
Trainings should be conducted for the newly formed SHGs, existing town level and area level federations, as well as in consultation with banks that have their own training centres and modules. He said that 20 trainers should be identified among the officers of the departments that will train the community-based organisation. DCs and Municipal Commissioners have been asked to attend meetings of TLF and ALF on a regular basis. He said that MAUD Deputy Secretary Priyanka would oversee bank linkages for SHGs, disbursement of funds and training for SHGs. Principal Secretary Dana Kishore suggested that steps should be taken to strengthen the UCD department in the GHMC.
CDMA Director Sridevi, MAUD Deputy Secretary Priyanka, GHMC Additional Commissioner (UCD) Chandrakanth Reddy, Joint Commissioner Venkateswara Rao, MEPMA State Mission Coordinators Padma, GHMC Project Directors and others were present on the occasion.
