Political obstruction hurts public interest: Komatireddy

Hyderabad, Oct.4 (NSS): Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has criticised political parties for engaging in actions that obstruct the Telangana State’s progress, stating that such politics are detrimental to the people.

He accused the leaders of the BRS party of securing a loan of Rs.1,000 crore from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) for the cleaning of the Musi River, but after losing power, they are now opposing the river cleanup. The Minister urged opposition parties to prioritise people welfare, especially as those residing in areas surrounding the Musi River suffer from severe health issues.

Speaking as the chief guest at the “Urban Infrastructure Summit 2024” hosted by ASSOCHAM at HICC Novotel on Friday, the Minister condemned the dual standards of opposition parties.

He highlighted that the Congress government has been working tirelessly towards sustainable development and taking progressive decisions to rectify the damage caused over the past decade.

The State government is committed to stable infrastructure development, moving steadily towards inclusive and sustainable growth, Komatireddy said.

The Minister emphasized the need for urbanization in Telangana in line with the rapid global urban culture expansion. He stated that the Congress government is laying strong foundations for future challenges and reshaping the state’s infrastructure with several key projects.

Venkat Reddy shared the government’s determination to change the face of Hyderabad by improving critical infrastructure such as roads, ROBs (Road Over Bridges), RUBs (Road Under Bridges), and new link roads.

Stating that managing solid waste in urban areas is a major challenge, he said the State government is setting up STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) to improve the sewage system.

He further noted that approximately 40 percent of the population now resides within the ORR (Outer Ring Road) and that this figure could exceed 50 percent by 2028. Therefore, the government is continuously working on urban expansion and providing infrastructure, Komatireddy disclosed.

Highlighting Telangana as the only State capable of offering unlimited floor space within limited geographical areas, the Minister stated that the government is focusing on aspects like fire safety systems, traffic control, and infrastructure planning.

He revealed that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with the ministerial team, is accelerating 19 key infrastructure projects under the SPEED (Smart, Proactive, Efficient, and Effective Delivery) initiative, including the Musi Riverfront development, construction of new airports, establishment of satellite towns, Metro expansion, GHMC reorganisation, and the construction of elevated corridors, the Regional Ring Road (RRR), the High Court building, integrated residential school complexes, and the new Osmania building.

The State government has allocated Rs.10,000 crore in the budget for Hyderabad’s development, with a vision to transform the city into one of the most livable in the world. Additionally, the State is working with the World Bank to achieve net-zero emissions and setting up skill centers across the state to turn the youth into skilled manpower, Komatireddy added.
