Professionalism possible only with experience- RBI Dy Governor T. Rabi Shankar

Hyderabad, Sept.14 (NSS): Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor T Rabi Shankar has said students cannot become experts with degrees in any field and expertise was possible only through studying subjects in their chosen field, mutual discussions and experience. He said Insurance and risk management were not easy things to do and added that the confidence in this profession, commitment and dedication in management would contribute to their growth. The convocation ceremony of the Institute of Insurance and Risk Management (IRM), which is being jointly hosted by IRDAI and the Telangana government, was held in Gachibowli on Saturday.

IRM Director Atanu K Das delivered the welcome address while IR (Finance and Investment) members, IRM Director Raj Kumar Sinha, RBI Regional Director Kamal Patnaik, IRDAI Permanent Member B.E.C. Patnaik, IRDAI member Satyajit Tripathi, SBI Life Telangana Regional Director Abhishek Khar Majumdar and others were present.

Rabi Shankar presented degrees to the students, who have completed graduation in various courses during the 2022-2024 academic year and gold medals and certificates of appreciation to the best performing students. Speaking on the occasion, Rabishankar said facing problems in life and profession was  not as easy as listening to the syllabus in college and learning, writing exams and passing exams. He cited the students to understand such a complex issue as the market farmers do not get a remunerative price for their produce, yet they will continue to cultivate.

He exhorted the students that those working in the insurance sector should think of formulating new schemes keeping in mind not only their own profits but also the interests of the consumers. Instead of wanting to come up with new ideas after getting a big status, they should do such creative ideas from the very beginning of their career so that they can reach greater heights in the profession, he said. He also said those who work in this field should also take their colleagues who work with them to higher positions along with them if they want to become leaders.

In his welcome address, Director K Das said that the insurance sector was expected to require 25,000 professionals by 2030. “In line with these requirements and demand, the institute announced that it will introduce new courses from next year. It is a matter of great pride that four students of IRM in the US have recently emerged as winners of an insurance and risk management workshop,” he said.
