
Hyderabad, Aug.31 (NSS): A deep depression formed over central Bay of Bengal turned into a cyclonic storm on Saturday morning in Telangana State. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Telangana on Saturday and Sunday.
A red alert has been sounded in the State for two days. Currently, the cyclonic storm is continuing in the Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to cross the coast in Kalingapatnam, Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur areas in the early hours of Sunday. The Met department officials said heavy to very heavy rainfall was likely to occur in Telangana districts Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Jogulamba Gadwal and Narayanpet districts and they will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in Telangana. The Districts that will receive heavy rains are: Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Suryapet districts.
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mulugu and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts on Saturday. Strong winds with a speed of 30-40 kmph are likely to prevail in Telangana. The highest rainfall of 13cm was recorded in Narayanpet in the last few hours. The IMD has issued a red alert for seven districts as heavy rains are likely to occur in the State for the next two days. These include Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Nalgonda districts.
Similarly, an orange alert has been issued for Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy and Nagarkurnool districts. Officials have advised people to be vigilant in case of the heavy rains.
