
Hyderabad, Jan.7 (RAHNUMA): Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi Under-19 T20 Cricket Championship – 2026 was formally inaugurated on Friday at the Amberpet Water Grounds, with TPCC President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud attending as the chief guest.
The programme was presided over by former PCC President V. Hanumantha Rao. Organisers said the annual championship is conducted in memory of Rajiv Gandhi with the aim of encouraging and nurturing sporting talent among the youth.
Addressing the gathering, Mahesh Kumar Goud described Rajiv Gandhi as a visionary leader who created opportunities for young people. He said sports play a vital role in instilling discipline, leadership and teamwork, and added that such tournaments help shape future sportspersons. He also reaffirmed the Congress party’s commitment to the overall development of youth in the state.
Minister Azharuddin, MLAs Naveen Yadav and Ganesh, MP Raghuveer Reddy, Corporations Chairmen Shiva Sena Reddy, Fayim Qureshi and Mettu Saikumar, DCC leader Motha Rohith, along with several Congress leaders, sports enthusiasts and a large number of young players, were present at the event.
