Revanth alleges electoral roll revision targets poor, minority voting rights

Hyderabad, Jan.8 (RAHNUMA): Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy alleged that an attempt is being made by the BJP government at the Centre to remove the voting rights of the poor and minorities in the name of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

“If the poor lose their right to vote, they will be deprived of ration cards, Aadhaar cards, and welfare schemes. There is a big conspiracy behind the voter list purification in the name of SIR,” Revanth Reddy said, while addressing a meeting of the TPCC extended meeting at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

In a vitriolic attack on the union government for introducing a new employment act by replacing the MGNREGS, Revanth Reddy said that 80 per cent of the 140 crore population in the country were the beneficiaries of the employment guarantee scheme introduced by the Congress government. Now, the Modi government is troubling the poor by changing the policy. During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections , the BJP conspired to change the Constitution if it won 400 seats.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge traveled across the country and alerted the people, the Chief Minister said that the Congress also prevented handing over the country to Adani and Ambani.

“The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has increased the self-respect of the poor. The Telugu states became the platform for the launch and implementation of the employment guarantee scheme. Changes were made to the employment guarantee scheme to hire the workers by the Ambani and Adani groups at lower wages. PM Modi and corporate companies hatched a big conspiracy behind this,” the Chief Minister charged.

He also highlighted that there is a confusion even in the name of the VB-G RAM G ( Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission) scheme brought by the Modi government. Where is ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) in the country? We will fight until the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme is restored he said.

Revanth Reddy called upon the party leaders to organise Gram Sabhas in all villages from January 20 to 30 and pass a resolution against the new law. MLAs should take responsibility in all constituencies. Ministers should take responsibility constituency-wise. The leaders were instructed to appoint an in-charge for every mandal (block), the Chief Minister said he will also take responsibility for one mandal.

The Chief Minister further announced that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will be invited to a mammoth public meeting in Mulugu.

The Congress party would organise public meetings in 9 districts from February 3 in the state, the Chief minister said asserted that the leaders owed the responsibility of winning the party workers in the ensuing Municipal elections.

He said the Congress has won 66 per cent of the seats in the recently held gram panchayat elections and now the party registered a resounding victory in the municipal elections.

Revanth Reddy said that he is also ready to organise door to door campaigns for the victory of the Congress since the party made him the Chief Minister of the Telangana state.

“Rahul Gandhi should be made Prime minister at this crucial time. Telangana will stand by Rahul Gandhi to make Prime Minister and everyone must work hard to defeat Modi and make Rahul the Prime Minister,” he added.
