Hyderabad, Sept.2 (NSS): Minister for Medical, Health and Family Welfare Damodar Raja Narasimha has discussed the implementation of enhanced security measures in government hospitals and medical colleges in compliance with Supreme Court directives.
The Minister held a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat here on Monday and discussed the Act 11 of 2008, titled “The Telangana Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property),” which was established by the Telangana government in 2008. The Act aims to prevent violence and damage to property within medical institutions.
During the meeting, Minister Raja Narasimha instructed officials to enforce stringent security measures in government hospitals, particularly to safeguard female doctors, nursing officers and staff.
He emphasised the need for night-time patrols by SHE Teams to ensure the safety of these individuals.
The Minister also directed that permanent police outposts be established at all teaching hospitals. He noted that space for police outposts has already been allocated at the TIMS hospitals being constructed by the Telangana government.
Stating that the police outposts have been set up at 10 teaching hospitals in Telangana, the Minister said the private security agencies must be accredited in accordance with the PSAR (Private Security Agencies – Regulations) Act of 2015.
Additionally, CC cameras should be integrated with local police stations across all levels of hospitals from Primary Health Centers (PHCs) to area hospitals to tighten security, he said.
The Minister ordered the development of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for security and emphasized the need for coordination between hospital medical staff and local police to enhance security measures.
“A Hospital Safety Committee must be established to address security concerns for female doctors, nursing staff, and other personnel, as per Supreme Court regulations. The safety regulations be developed at both State and district levels and that a report be submitted by September 14,” Raja Narasimha said.
Furthermore, cases related to security incidents involving hospital doctors and nurses should be registered under Act 11 of 2008. Officials should promptly submit details of all registered cases to date, he said.
The Minister also advocated for the establishment of a fast-track court across ten districts to expedite the adjudication of these cases. He discussed in detail the joint actions required by the Home Department and the Health department.
Finally, Raja Narasimha ordered the establishment of security houses in every hospital to further bolster security measures.
