Rs.2.23 cr relief for Madina bus tragedy victims; CM Revanth assures unwavering support

Hyderabad, Feb.28 (RAHNUMA): Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday handed over Rs.2.23 crore in compensation to the families of victims of tragic Madina bus accident that claimed 44 lives. The cheques were distributed at the state Secretariat in the presence of senior officials and public representatives.

On November 17 last year, the accident occurred near Madina in Saudi Arabia, when a bus carrying Umrah pilgrims from Hyderabad caught fire. Of the 45 passengers on board, 44 lost their lives — including 16 men, 28 women and 10 children — while one person survived with serious injuries.

The Telangana Government announced compensation of Rs.5 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs.3 lakh to the injured survivor. Presenting the cheques personally, the Chief Minister assured the bereaved families of continued government support. Immediately after receiving news of the tragedy, the State swung into action, setting up control rooms at the Telangana Haj Committee, the Secretariat (GAD), and the Indian Consulate in Jeddah to coordinate relief efforts, he noted.

The CM highlighted that Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammad Azharuddin was deputed to Madina to oversee arrangements. The Minister coordinated with Saudi authorities to ensure smooth conduct of last rites at Jannatul Baqi in accordance with Islamic traditions. Emergency visas, flight tickets and accommodation were arranged for family members.

“Generally, governments do not provide compensation for incidents that occur outside the country. However, considering the plight of the affected families, we decided to extend financial assistance”, the Chief Minister said, reaffirming his commitment to minority welfare and solidarity during the holy month.

Senior leaders lauded the government’s swift and compassionate response, terming it a reflection of the administration’s commitment to stand by citizens in times of crisis.
