Rs.5 lakh ex-gratia for Madina bus accident victims soon: Advisor Shabbir Ali

Hyderabad, Feb.12 (RAHNUMA): Senior Congress leader and Telangana Government Advisor (SC, ST, OBC and Minorities) Mohammed Ali Shabbir announced that Rs.5 lakh ex-gratia cheques sanctioned for each victim of the Madina bus accident will be distributed shortly after the lifting of model code restrictions.

A delegation of Congress leaders, including Osman Mohammed Khan, SK Afzaluddin, Shaik Arshad, Mateen Shareef and Mujeebullah Shareef, along with family members of the victims submitted a representation to Shabbir Ali at Telangana Secretariat on Thursday, raising concern over the delay in distribution of the financial assistance.

Responding to the representation, Shabbir Ali clarified that the delay was due to election code guidelines and not administrative lapses. He said the cheques are ready and will be handed over within days once restrictions are cleared.

It may be recalled that the victims were travelling for pilgrimage to Madina when the accident occurred. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed the officials to extend full support, including coordination with Saudi authorities for DNA identification and burial arrangements at Jannat al-Baqi as per families’ wishes. Minister Md Azharuddin and senior officials were part of the delegation that assisted in completing the identification process and burial arrangements. The advisor reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring timely relief to the bereaved families.
