
(RAHNUMA) SURREY Sahebzadi Shahana Khan, daughter of Nawab Sardar Abdul Aziz Khan of the former Bhopal State, passed away on 3 January 2026 in Canada. Her passing corresponded with the 13th of Rajab, a date of profound significance in the Islamic calendar marking the birth anniversary of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib.
Sahebzadi Shahana Khan was the wife of Syed Riazuddin Khan, the youngest son of the late Lt. Colonel Syed Mohammed Amiruddin Khan, who served as Military Secretary to Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam of Hyderabad. Her passing has been widely mourned by family members, relatives, and members of the wider community.
The Janaza (funeral) prayer was held on Monday, 5 January 2026, immediately following the Zuhr prayer, at Surrey Jamia Masjid, where family members, friends, and community members gathered to offer prayers for the departed soul.
She is survived by her husband Syed Riazuddin Khan and her children Shazia, Arshia, Nasser, and Ali. The family requested prayers that Allah forgive her shortcomings, elevate her station in the hereafter, and grant patience and strength to all those grieving her loss.
Khatam-e-Qur’an and Memorial Programme
A Khatam-e-Qur’an and memorial gathering was held on 8 January 2026, the third day following her burial, at a local Jamea Masjid in Surrey, in keeping with a long-standing family tradition.
The programme commenced after Maghrib prayer and was attended by relatives, scholars, community figures, and well-wishers. The presence of senior family members who were unable to attend in person was acknowledged during the gathering.
Reflections on Islamic values and the wisdom of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib were delivered by Asad Dean, CPA, followed by a recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Hafiz ul-Qur’an Idrees Deen. Devotional Naats were recited by Abdul Rasool Salis, while noted writer and poet Md Ismail Rajput presented a melodious Naat.
Additional reflections were shared by Muhammad Naseer Pirzada of The Miracle newspaper. The programme included the recitation of Durood-e-Taj by Waqar Khan and concluded with a final du‘a led by Sayed Omar Ahmed (Shah Saheb), followed by the Salam recited by Sayed Murtaza Ahmed.
Dinner was served at the mosque for attendees, and family members later received visitors offering condolences at their residence.
Sahebzadi Shahana Khan was remembered as a woman of faith, warmth, and quiet dignity. Her passing has left a deep sense of loss within her family and among the many who knew her.
