
Hyderabad, Aug.15 (NSS): South Central Railway (SCR) celebrated the 78th Independence Day on Thursday. SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain hoisted the National flag and received the Guard of Honour at Railway Sport Complex Ground, Secunderabad. Senior Railway officials, staff, family members and students from Railway school and college also participated in the celebrations. Cultural programs by students of Railway mixed high school & Railway Junior College and Commando show by Railway Protection Force marked the Independence Day celebrations.
Arun Kumar Jain extended his greetings to South Central Railway workforce and their family members on the glorious occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day. In his address, the General Manager remembered the great freedom fighters whose sacrifices made it possible for India to become an independent Nation.
Highlighting the outstanding achievements displayed by the zone during the current financial year, the General Manager stated that the gross originating revenue of SCR for the period April-July 2024 has seen a remarkable growth, touching Rs 6894 crore, signifying a jump of 3% when compared with the same period in last fiscal. He stated the zone has registered 46.25 million tonnes of freight loading until July and generated freight revenue of Rs 4,611 crore. The originating Passenger traffic between April–July 2024 is 88 million and the revenue from this segment is Rs 1,956 crore, he said.
The General Manager stated the Zone has been according top priority to safety of train operations on a Zero tolerance basis. Accordingly, complete track renewal to the extent of 251 km has been completed between April–July 2024, he said. To effectively tackle the adverse situations in monsoon period, precautionary measures are being taken at vulnerable locations and bridges.
Arun Kumar Jain stated that the thrust area of SCR is infrastructure augmentation. Continuing record track addition of 415 Km during the last year to the Zone’s network, in this current financial year, SCR has completed 55 Km of third line works, he said. The electrification of SCR network is completed by 93% which covers almost all main routes of the Zone, he added. He stated that under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, works are in progress with an estimated cost of Rs 6243 crore at 119 railway stations which are identified for redevelopment.
The General Manager informed that to meet the demands of the extra rush of passengers during holiday season and summer season, 271 special trains were operated and 3866 coaches were attached to popular trains in the current financial year till July. Additionally, SCR is ahead in taking rapid strides in the field of energy conservation. The zone has commissioned 896 kWp roof top solar plants at seven stations, he said.
