Seethakka rebuts KTR’s debt accusations

Hyderabad, Oct.16 (NSS): In response to BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s accusations that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has accumulated a record-breaking Rs.80,500 crore in loans in just 10 months, Minister for Panchayat Raj Seethakka took to Twitter to issue a sharp rebuttal.

She pointed out that it is, in fact, the previous regime led by KTR’s party that pushed the State into a situation where new loans had to be taken just to pay the interest on existing debts. She fired back, stating that KTR’s government inherited and perpetuated the cycle of debt.

Seethakka further highlighted that during the nine and a half years of BRS rule, the State incurred loans amounting to a staggering Rs.7 lakh crore.

The Minister countered KTR’s claims by stating that every day, Rs.207 crore from the public exchequer is being spent just to pay the interest and installments on these loans, which averages Rs.6,000 crore a month.

She criticised the previous administration for accumulating loans recklessly and burdening the financial system with interest payments, comparing them to a “loan shark.”

Moreover, Seethakka pointed out that in addition to the mounting loans, the previous government failed to clear outstanding dues. These include Rs.5,000 crore for fee reimbursements, unpaid bills for Aarogyasri, pending payments to contractors, dues to electricity companies, RTC, rent for Gurukulam buildings, and retirement benefits for government employees.

She questioned how the BRS party could now criticize debts when they themselves left every sector burdened with hundreds of crores in unpaid dues.

Seethakka emphasised that the current government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is working to stabilise the economy and has already waived Rs.18,000 crore worth of farm loans. She mentioned several welfare schemes that have been implemented, including free bus travel for women, providing gas cylinders at Rs.500, and offering 200 units of free electricity to the public. Additionally, the government has filled over 60,000 government jobs, initiated new housing schemes, and launched other significant welfare programs. She concluded by sarcastically noting that the BRS preaching about debts and dues is like “devils quoting the scriptures.”
