SHABBIR ALI PUSHES FOR 100% WAQF PROPERTIES REGISTRATION ON UMEED PORTAL

Hyderabad, Dec.16 (RAHNUMA): Telangana Government advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Tuesday stressed the urgent need for ‘complete’ registration of all Waqf properties on the Centre’s Umeed portal, calling for intensified efforts to cover unregistered institutions, particularly in rural areas.

Addressing a review meeting attended by Minority Welfare Minister Md Azharuddin, Haj Committee Chairman Syed Gulam Afzal Biabani, TMREIS President Faheem Qureshi and others, Shabbir Ali said nearly 74% of Waqf properties in Telangana have already been registered, but many Ashoorkhanas, mosques and other institutions remain outside the system due to legal delays, misinformation and fear among caretakers.

He noted that the registration process was delayed for four months owing to a pending Supreme Court case and concerns raised by community organisations. However, he said the Waqf Tribunal has now granted a three-month extension and directed the Government of India to reopen the Umeed portal, allowing the registration process to resume.

Shabbir Ali said gazette-notified Waqf properties had already been uploaded and the extension would help include remaining institutions. He urged the State Waqf Board to launch a district-wise awareness campaign, including field visits, to reassure mosque committees and dargah caretakers that registration is meant to protect Waqf assets, not enable government takeover.

He also suggested hiring young IT professionals through reputed agencies to accelerate data entry and streamline portal operations. Praising Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minority Welfare Minister Md Azharuddin, Shabbir Ali said the government was fully committed to legally safeguarding all Waqf properties through complete registration.
