Hyderabad, Aug.30 (NSS): CPM State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram today urged the State government to not demolish the houses of the poor without showing an alternative.
In a statement, he said when the Telangana government was removing the illegal structures in the tanks and nallahs by HYDRA, the government should take all precautionary measures in case of the poor and middle class people. He said the CPI(M)’s Telangana committee had urged the government not to demolish the houses of the poor who had been living next to the ponds and nallahs for years without showing them an alternative, even though the government’s HYDRA system aimed at protecting water resources in the State was welcomed by them.
He said in Mahabubnagar district headquarters, 12 years ago, the then government had given house pattas to 78 differently-abled persons. “The houses were demolished with bulldozers in the early hours of Thursday in the name of the illegal encroachments. “The poor, who have been living there for years and living hard, have fallen onto the road now. They should be helped immediately. In the name of Hydra, houses of poor people were demolished in Hasmatpet, Alwal and other bastis of Hyderabad. The CPI(M) has been urging the State government not to hurt the poor and middle class without providing an alternative in the name of encroachments, FTLs and buffer zones.
