Hyderabad, Oct.23 (NSS): Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Sirikonda Madhusudhanachari today presented his arguments during the public hearing of the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) at the Electricity Regulatory Bhavan in the city.
Speaking to media persons, he said he had appealed to the ERC to reject the proposal to hike the electricity tariff, which is likely to be an axe for the economic progress of the State. “Before the formation of the State, the people of Telangana were struggling with electricity and after the formation of the State in 2014, with the vision of former CM KCR, the power sector was transformed with thousands of crores of rupees and made it a leader in the country.
Telangana has been taken from 7,000 MW to 24,000 MW capacity, transmission lines have been strengthened, countless substations and transformers have been made available to the public, they have provided quality electricity to agriculture, free of cost to agriculture, provided quality electricity for domestic needs, increased agricultural produce manifold, provided uninterrupted power to the industrial sector and thus ushered in the golden era of Telangana in the power sector,” he said.
He also said the previous KCR government had worked hard to increase the State’s wealth without increasing the electricity charges. “On the contrary, this government is trying to damage the larger interests of the State by sending proposals by discoms to the ERC to increase the electricity charges. The increase in electricity charges means directly and indirectly affecting the income of all the people. If this government is sincere about the interests of the State, the government should bear the burden of the price hike proposed by discoms in the form of subsidy,” he said.
BRS party MLCs Mahmood Ali, Surabhi Vani Devi and Takkellapalli Ravinder Rao were present.
