Hyderabad, July 29 (NSS): The Krishna River is flooding due to heavy rains in upstream areas of the Srisailam project. Alamatti and Jurala dams are already full due to the heavy floods. As a result, the flood water was released downstream to the Srisailam project by the authorities concerned.
The officials of the Srisailam reservoir lifted the three gates of the project on Monday afternoon and released the water to the downstream areas. The 6, 7 and 8 gates of the project were raised by ten feet by the authorities and 81 thousand cusecs of the flood water was released from to the downstream project Nagarjuna Sagar dam through the spillway.
Kurnool Chief Engineer Kabir Bhasha opened the three gates of the dam. Before this, officials performed prayers to river Krishna. A total of 27 thousand cusecs of water was being released to the downstream Nagarjuna Sagar project from the each gate of the Srisailam project.
