Hyderabad, Nov.26 (RAHNUMA): Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of ‘repeatedly’ violating the Constitution for political gains since India’s Independence.
Addressing a gathering at a “Constitution Day event” organised by the BJP SC Morcha at the Press Club, the BJP leader said that the Congress leaders ‘carry the Constitution book for show, without understanding its true spirit’, and continue to ‘mislead people with false propaganda’. The Congress had ‘mocked and misused the Constitution several times’, citing the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi after her election was invalidated by the High Court. “During the Emergency, norms were thrown aside and even children were jailed”, he added, and further said that several state governments were dismissed during the UPA regime in a similar disregard for democratic norms.
Paying tribute to Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution, Ramchander Rao recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had developed five key sites associated with Ambedkar as “Panchteerth” in his honour. Six Telugu leaders had also played an important role in the drafting of the Constitution, he noted.
Emphasising the need for every citizen to read and respect the Constitution, Rao said freedom of speech comes with responsibility. “Some people misuse freedom of expression on social media and even insult Mother India”, he remarked.
Rao further alleged that the Congress continues to undermine democratic institutions, including by spreading ‘false narratives’ about EVM tampering. “If EVMs were faulty, how did Congress win in Himachal Pradesh?” he asked, and criticised Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, for alleging “vote theft” after BJP’s victory in Bihar.
Claiming that the Modi government has always adhered to Constitutional values, Rao accused both the Congress and BRS of misusing constitutional provisions for political gains, particularly on matters related to BC reservations.
