Telangana to implement global road safety standards: Komatireddy

Hyderabad, Sept.23 (NSS): Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has informed that Telangana will implement advanced road construction methods used worldwide to make roads safer.

These methods include smart road technology, intelligent traffic management, futuristic automated construction and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). By adopting these, the road fatalities can be reduced significantly in Telangana in the days to come, Komatireddy said.

In a meeting held with World Bank representatives at Secretariat here on Monday, the Minister emphasised the Telangana government’s commitment to saving lives.

World Bank’s Chief Officer for Transportation, Reenu Anuja, presented a detailed powerpoint on road construction projects executed in various Indian States with World Bank support.

She highlighted how States like Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka and West Bengal reduced road accidents and fatalities by employing ICT-based technologies. The presentation also discussed the importance of intelligent traffic management systems in accident prevention. Reenu Anuja elaborated on how the Telangana government could accelerate the State’s progress by extending urban areas into rurban regions, developing mega clusters, connecting rural regions with cities and setting up women’s skill hubs.

She also mentioned innovative financial models for project funding in Telangana.

Minister Komatireddy expressed concerns that, despite hundreds of lives lost in road accidents, the previous government did not focus on road safety.
