Hyderabad, Oct.5 (NSS): The State Government is preparing to introduce a new Revenue Act that will serve as a national model by addressing the gaps in the current system, said Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.
Speaking at a farmer-interaction event held at Nellikal village in the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency on Saturday, the Minister stated that the existing Revenue Act has been fraught with issues, causing significant challenges for farmers and landowners, especially under the 2020 Act and the Dharani portal. To remedy this, the State government has been collecting public opinion and examining revenue laws from across the country. Based on this feedback, Thirumalagiri Sagar mandal was chosen as a pilot project area to test solutions and gather inputs for the proposed legislation, Ponguleti said.
He further stated that the State government intends to take into consideration suggestions from opposition parties as well, and plans to roll out the new law in a few weeks.
The key objective of the new Revenue Act is to ensure the allocation of government land to eligible poor families, Ponguleti disclosed.
He highlighted that despite holding land, some individuals in the area do not have legal land titles, while others possess titles but lack physical ownership of land. The government is committed to resolving these issues through land surveys and proper distribution mechanisms, the Minister said.
During the event, the Minister also revealed that revenue officials had identified around 13,000 acres of land in the Thirumalagiri Sagar area with bogus pattas (land ownership documents). The government’s focus, he emphasized, is to ensure that state lands benefit the poor, reflecting a pro-poor stance in all decisions.
Additionally, he mentioned that around 3,500 to 4,000 acres of land will be distributed to eligible poor families in Thirumalagiri Sagar. In support of this initiative, the Chief Minister is scheduled to visit Nagarjunsagar on December 9, where a public meeting will be held to officially distribute land to thousands of underprivileged families.
The Minister also announced the distribution of Indiramma Houses to the poor, with the first phase of 3,500 houses set to be delivered by the end of the month across all constituencies.
Former minister K Jana Reddy lauded the government’s decision to revise the Revenue Act and the Dharani portal, expressing satisfaction with Thirumalagiri Sagar being chosen for the pilot project.
