Hyderabad, Jan.17 (RAHNUMA): Tension prevailed at the Secunderabad railway station for a while on Saturday as the police arrested leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) while stopping them from reaching the station to support their push for establishing the Secunderabad Municipal Corporation.
The rally was supposed to take place from Secunderabad Railway Station to the Mahatma Gandhi statue on MG Road. In addition to detaining BRS leaders, most local businesses, including Alpha Café, closed their doors. A significant police presence surrounded the station, and officers, armed with batons, ensured that traffic flow remained uninterrupted.
Supporters of the BRS who showed up for the rally were arrested and barred from moving towards the station.
Although BRS leaders assured the police that the rally would proceed peacefully and wouldn’t disturb the public, the police proceeded with the arrests. Many BRS supporters were taken away in police vehicles.
Amid chants directed at the Congress government, BRS leaders and members confronted the police over their actions in blocking the march to the station.
