Karimnagar, Sept.29 (NSS): Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) in Sunday celebrated the grand launch of its first-ever electric super luxury buses.
At a special ceremony held at Ambedkar Stadium in Karimnagar, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar flagged off 35 buses, marking a new era of sustainable transportation.
These buses will operate on the Karimnagar-Hyderabad route, promising travelers an eco-friendly, high-tech, and comfortable ride.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, accompanied by TGSRTC MD V.C. Sajjanar, local legislators, and officials, took a ride on one of the new buses and inspected the charging station at Karimnagar-2 depot.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister
expressed gratitude to TGSRTC for allocating these electric buses to Karimnagar, a first for the State.
He revealed that 39 more electric buses would soon be added, with plans to expand the fleet to other cities, including Nizamabad, Warangal, Suryapet, Nalgonda and Hyderabad.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, TGSRTC is set to procure 2,400 electric buses, aiming for a pollution-free society. The demand for buses has surged, particularly due to the success of the Mahalakshmi scheme, which offers free travel to women, with 92 crore zero-fare tickets already issued, saving women Rs. 3,123 crore.
TGSRTC MD V.C. Sajjanar emphasised the luxurious features of these buses, including mobile charging ports, CCTV cameras with a one-month backup, fire detection systems, and vehicle tracking with a panic button for added safety.With a single charge, these buses can travel 300 kilometers and fully recharge in two and a half hours, he disclosed.
Sajjanar also highlighted that by March 2025, 500 electric buses would be operational across Telangana, including non-stop services between Karimnagar and Hyderabad.
The event was attended by numerous dignitaries and TGSRTC officials, who lauded the initiative as a major step toward sustainable transportation.
