Hyderabad, Oct.29 (NSS) Minister for Textiles Tummala Nageswara Rao has directed all government departments, corporations, and public sector organisations to procure textiles solely through the Telangana Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society Ltd., (TSCO).
At the Secretariat here on Tuesday, the Minister held a review meeting with officials of various welfare departments regarding the allocation of textile production orders to TSCO.
On the occasion, he informed that the State government has brought in GO No. 1 with the aim of providing continuous employment to weavers.
Tummala emphasised that the departments must submit their textile orders to TSCO by November 15, for the 2025-26 academic year.
He clarified that orders may only be placed with other vendors if TSCO issues a “non-availability certificate” within a week.
The Minister further highlighted the importance of following government procurement protocols to support the livelihoods of weavers.
He cautioned that any department or organisation found sourcing textiles from private suppliers without TSCO ’s authorisation would face disciplinary actions, as per the Chief Minister’s instructions.
Tummala noted that frequent design and colour changes in uniforms by certain welfare departments have led to delays in supply. He suggested that departments retain the same uniform design for a minimum of five years to streamline the procurement process.
The Minister also instructed TSCO Managing Director Shailaja Ramayya, and the Principal Secretary of the department of Textiles, to achieve full supply fulfillment by securing indents before November 15. Given the 3-6 month lead time required for yarn procurement, dyeing, and processing, the Minister stressed the importance of early submissions to ensure timely deliveries.
In addition to this, Tummala urged the welfare departments to promptly settle outstanding payments owed to TSCO to facilitate smooth operations.
