Washington, March 08 (QNA) – US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is to visit Japan, South Korea and China next week in his first visit to these countries since assuming his post.
Acting State Department spokesman Mark Toner said that Tillerson will arrive in Tokyo on March 15th, Seoul on the 17th and Beijing on the 18th. He will meet with senior officials to discuss bilateral and multilateral issues, including strategic coordination to address what he calls the advancing nuclear and missile threat from North Korea.
Tillerson is also expected to explain to Japanese and South Korean officials the ongoing review by the administration of US President Donald Trump of the US policy toward North Korea, Toner said. Toner expressed Washington’s concerns about the North’s repeated provocations.
He said it is getting to the point where the US needs to look at other alternatives, and that the upcoming visit is aimed at generating a new approach to the issue through discussions with its allies. (QNA)
