Hyderabad, Sept.10 (NSS): Former BRS party minister and MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy condemned the appointment of Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi for the post of chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). He said that the tradition of giving the post of PAC chairman to the main opposition party had been going on since time immemorial. “How can such a thing be given to an MLA who has defected to the Congress from the BRS party,” he asked. The former minister alleged that the post was given to Gandhi with the ulterior motive of not letting the opposition point out the shortcomings of the state government.
“The post was not given to the opposition as it did not want the people to know about the shortcomings of the government. The formation of the PAC, which was to be held in the election process, was done in the selection process. Our party leader Harish Rao’s nomination was rejected. Why were elections not held despite four nominations filed for the post,” Reddy asked .
He alleged that the traditions of the legislature were trampled upon. “The whole world had seen that Gandhi joined the ruling Congress party and worn its scarf. The news of his joining the Congress party had appeared in all the newspapers. Why didn’t Gandhi condemn it when it appeared in the press? The PAC was given to the leader who changed the party and democracy was destroyed as a witness in the assembly. In the Lok Sabha, Congress MP KC Venugopal has been appointed as the chairman of the PAC. Does the Congress party have a constitution in Delhi and another in Telangana? Rahul Gandhi, who is saying that he will defend the Constitution, should answer this. Our petition seeking disqualification is pending with the assembly Speaker. How was he given the post while it was pending,” He asked .
It is a known fact that Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi has been given the post of chairman of the Public Accounts Committee . This has already been strongly condemned by the BRS party. The BRS leaders are questioning as to how the MLA who had defected from their party would be allotted the chairman’s post .
