Vijayawada, Aug.6 (NSS): Under the guidance of Dr M. Sowribala, Chief Medical Superintendent, Vijayawada Division, Railway Hospital, celebrated World Breastfeeding Week from August 1 to 7, with the theme “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All”.
An awareness meeting was held Tuesday, at the New OPD Block, Railway Hospital, Vijayawada wherein Dr M. Jaideep, Asst. Chief Medical Superintendent (Health &Family Welfare) highlighted the importance of the week’s theme.
Dr Sarada, Sr. Divisional Medical Officer & Gynaecologist, debunked common myths about breastfeeding and shared crucial facts, including the reduced risk of cancer in breastfeeding mothers, through an informative PowerPoint presentation. Dr D. Sitaram, Asst. Chief Medical Superintendent (Paediatrics), discussed the benefits of breast milk over bottle feeding for infants and informed the audience about the facilities available for feeding mothers at work and public places such as offices, hospitals, and railway stations.
Program activities included group meetings conducted in Railway colonies throughout the week with the assistance of health inspectors. Rallies in the Railway Hospital and colonies, featuring placards to raise awareness were also conducted for the railway beneficiaries and feeding mothers. The program successfully increased awareness and support for breastfeeding practices, contributing to improving maternal and child health outcomes.
