Hyderabad, Aug 1 (INN): BRS MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy launched a scathing attack on Congress MLAs, accusing them of showing disrespect towards women legislators.
Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan alongside MLAs Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and Kova Lakshmi, Sabitha expressed her disappointment with the Congress members’ behaviour.
Sabitha Indra Reddy pointed out that despite the Congress government being in power for nearly eight months, there has been no significant improvement in governance. She criticized the Congress for failing to deliver on their promises of democracy, public administration, and women’s welfare under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi. She noted that many women voted for Congress, attracted by promises such as gas subsidies and a monthly allowance of ₹2,500 for women. However, the current state of affairs has left parents worried about the safety of their daughters, with daily news of atrocities against women.
Sabitha highlighted a recent incident where, within 48 hours of discussing women’s safety in the Assembly, five rapes occurred in Hyderabad. She condemned the government’s lack of response and action on these issues.
Sabitha also criticized the Assembly’s reluctance to allow women legislators to speak on these critical issues. She mentioned that despite standing for four and a half hours from 10 AM to 2:30 PM, they were not given the opportunity to speak. She questioned why the Chief Minister was afraid to let women speak, suggesting that they would only speak the truth. She lamented that this incident would be remembered in history as a time when women legislators were denied a voice in the Assembly.
Reflecting on past leaders like Chandrababu Naidu, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, K Rosaiah, Kiran Kumar Reddy, and KCR, Sabitha noted that they would have given women the opportunity to speak. She expressed her disappointment that Congress members seemed to take pleasure in the situation, showing no sense of shame or respect.
Sabitha expressed her sadness at the Congress members’ behaviour, which she described as “demonic joy,” and emphasized the need for respect and opportunity for women legislators in the Assembly.
