Hyderabad, Oct.17 (NSS): Minister for Panchayat Seethakka has condemned the remarks of former minister Harish Rao who alleged that the Congress government has stopped the distribution of sarees to women on the occasion of Bathukamma festival.
In a release here on Wednesday, Minister Seethakka said the Congress government was providing more financial benefits to women beyond the distribution of Bathukamma sarees.
“The previous government’s expenditure on Bathukamma sarees was only Rs.300 crores per year. But, the Congress government is providing a travelling facility to the women at free of cost without spending a penny. Till October 16, about 98.50 crores of free journeys have been used by women and the worth of free travel is Rs.3,325 crores,” she said.
“On on average, women are able to save Rs.332 crores per month by traveling on the buses. Our government is spending ten times more for free bus travel than the budget spent on Bathukamma sarees by the previous government,” she said.
