Syrian authorities launch debris removal project in Aleppo

LONDON(RAHNUMA): Syrian authorities in the Aleppo governorate launched a six-month project to remove debris from more than 30 towns and cities in the northern part of the country that were affected by years of civil war.

The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management announced that teams are expected to remove 550,000 cubic meters of debris, helping to improve access to roads and public services.

Dozens of towns in the northern Mount Simeon and Azaz districts will benefit from the project, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

The civil war in Syria, which lasted from 2011 to 2024, left the country’s infrastructure in dire condition and in urgent need of repair. Authorities initiated nationwide reconstruction projects to help displaced residents return to devastated areas.

Debris removal is currently in progress in the towns of Mhardeh, Suran, Al-Suqaylabiyah, and Salamiyah in the Hama countryside, as well as Khan Sheikhoun, Maaret Al-Numan, and Jisr Al-Shughour in Idlib.

More than half a million cubic meters of debris are expected to be removed from roads, public squares, and government buildings in Hama. Since last year, more than 450,000 cubic meters of rubble have been cleared in Idlib, SANA reported.
